The Common Buzzard, Buteo buteo (all photos) is the commonest species of raptor in Britain, it has a widespread distribution being found in the lowlands of the south east to the hill mountains of Wales. It feeds largely on a diet of small mammals such as rabbits but it will also take carrion and invertebrates if prey is in short supply.
Unluckily this individual was seen as a threat and was promptly mobbed by a Carrion Crow, Corvus corone (2)(3)(4)(5). As the photos show there isn’t a great size difference between a crow and a buzzard, although the buzzard largely ignored the crow and carried on circling, eventually the crow got bored and flew off.
